Point of Reference - Death

Adam & Eve had no real point of reference for death when God told them they would die if the disobeyed. Was "death" their eviction from the Garden? Was death what happened to the withering plants? Was death the bleeding lambs for their sin? But they soon got their reference point of death - And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. Genesis 4:25
